The Southwest: Real & Raw

Hi! We are Holly & Safak. The Southwest is where we truly connect with the country’s deep history and regional resilience. As a family of geographers, we’ll help you discover the raw landscapes and cultural stories of this desert heartland. About us →

We don’t just travel to see the American Southwest; we travel to understand it. As a family of geographers, we are drawn to this region’s extreme landscapes—from the jagged stratigraphic layers of the Grand Canyon to the vast, silent stretches of the Colorado Plateau. For us, the “Slow Travel” philosophy is a necessity here. To truly understand the social and economic circumstances of the tribal lands or the survival of bypassed Route 66 towns, you have to slow down. We moved at a pace that allows us to connect with the local communities, study the physical geography and witness how the environment shapes the lives of those who call the desert home. In this hub, we share our family’s “Real over Perfect” discoveries.
