We love cities and villages, but we explore them differently. We kip the rush and travel slowly, enjoying the city’s atmosphere and getting to know the locals. We prefer wandering through non-touristy neighborhoods, discovering the history and finding those hidden spots where the real life happens.
Here, you’ll find guides for experiencing cities and villages like a local, with our favorite destinations, travel advice and insider tips.
Hi! We are Holly & Safak.
We believe travelling cities is more than just seeing sights and ticking bucket lists. We prefer skipping the rush and connecting with people and their cultures while exploring the natural beauty of each region. Join us as we explore the world, one authentic moment at a time.
…Instead of rushing between attractions, dedicate time to observing local life. Find a park, a neighborhood café or a market and simply enjoy the atmosphere.
…Before you go, research the city’s public transport system (or plan walking routes). This is often the most efficient and sustainable way to get around.
…Become a “flâneur” (or “flâneuse”) – someone without a fixed agenda. Allow yourself to get lost in the side streets. This is where the city’s true character often reveals itself.
…Check local event calendars for festivals, markets or concerts happening during your visit. These events provide opportunities to connect with locals.
…Skip restaurants with English menus. We’ve found that those with handwritten menus are often the best. Ask locals and support authentic local businesses.
…Choose accommodation in a quieter residential neighborhood that may offer a more authentic experience. Consider places for a “living like a local” feel.
